I've been thinking a lot about the role of native plants in urban settings lately. With more and more people living in cities, how can we incorporate native plants into our urban landscapes to benefit both the environment and the community?
I recently came across a project in New York City where they're transforming rooftops into native plant gardens. Not only do these gardens help with stormwater management and air quality, but they also create habitats for local wildlife and provide a green space for residents. It got me wondering - what other ways can we use native plants in urban areas?
Could we see more native plant street medians or community gardens? Maybe even native plant installations in public parks or along riverbanks? I'd love to hear about any initiatives or ideas you've come across or are working on in your own cities.
Also, are there specific native plants that you think are particularly well-suited for urban environments? Maybe some that are more tolerant of pollution or can thrive in smaller spaces?
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts and experiences!
